Foam Homepage

Foam is a personal knowledge management and sharing system inspired by Roam Research, built on Visual Studio Code and GitHub.

Foam is the tool that I use to organize my notes. The content on [[this site]] is generated from my Foam workspace using the Eleventy static site generator.

I like Foam as it is not opinionated in the "notetaking system" you use with it, as notes are just Markdown files stored in directories. Also it integrates into Visual Studio Code, which I use anyway, so it's not an entirely new program to download, install, learn, and manage.

[[notes-on-notes]] covers how I approach note-taking.

Future

I may not stick with Foam in the long run. It uses Markdown, which is fine (plenty of tooling and support), but I like the idea of building my own markup format and tooling. Inspirations include Runic plus Oscean and Gemtext. I want a system with a design that I can hold in my head and really make my own. But I need to know what I need before I can build my own ecosystem, and using Foam plus Markdown is part of that exploaratory first step.
