I struggle with finding the right voice to use when writing. Usually I come off as too formal, wordy, or clever, making what I want to convey harder to understand.
My goal is to drop the formality, and write more conversationally. If I had to guess, the formality came from years of school paper-writing, where I'm sure I thought my clever sentence structure and vocabulary impressed the instructors. Looking back, I realize it was more likely tiring and difficult to read my writing. And I don't want that to be the case anymore!
I feel like I've been making progress, and this site has been a big part of that. Giving myself a space to write that is public (such as it is) gives me an opportunity to practice writing in a more casual voice.
This page is here largely as a reminder to myself to put clarity of thought first in my writing. No tips or tricks here, unfortunately!
